Depending on your current existing website, moving it to WordPress Migration can be as easy as a few clicks, or a bit more of a detailed process.

The WordPress Import/Export feature.

WordPress Migration

WordPress has a built in Import feature that makes it fairly painless to import website and blog content from other services. This import service is pretty easy to use if you are migrating from some other blogging system.

Say you want to move your existing Blogger blog over to your own WordPress site.

  1. First assuming you have a WordPress site installed and running (Hint: Page.ly does this for you in 2 minutes) you will see under Tools > Import there is link for Blogger in the list of available platforms.
  2. Simply click the Blogger link and follow the instructions. You will be asked to authenticate into your blogger account where all your posts will be copied and then imported into WordPress
  3. Easy peezy.

Moving from hosted WordPress.com blog to your new WordPress site

  1. Login to your hosted WordPress blog and find the Export feature under Tools > Export. this will download an XML file of all your posts
  2. On your new WordPress Site, just Import choosing the WordPress Option
  3. Find the file and be sure to check the “grab attachments” button and WordPress does the rest.

Moving your static website to WordPress

Unfortunately the only real way to get your static site into WordPress is the old copy and paste method. You will have to create each page within WordPress and then copy the content from the old page into the editor and save. This is a job best handled by a professional.
